You’ll find in plain sight within Merritt Group’s set of values, and evident at our offices, that we value helping others very highly. We recognize that not everyone is as fortunate as we are. So, each year, in the spirit of the holiday season, we come together as a group towards our mission of lending a hand, giving our time, and donating needed items to organizations in our communities during our annual Merry Week of Giving (MWoG).

While we’ve always made a point to do great pro-bono work and give to worthy causes throughout the year, this year’s MWoG marks the 5th year of the formalized program, and we decided to step it up!

Every member of the MG staff took part in making a difference, and between in-person volunteering, in-kind donations and a blanket-making project, we were able to support five different organizations this year.

Bright Beginnings (Washington, DC)

A group of volunteers teamed up to help in the infant, toddler and preschool classrooms at this wonderful organization focused on providing childcare and education for children living in shelters. The team also delivered more than 20 security “no-sew” blankets for the toddlers, which both the Virginia and California offices teamed up to make by hand.

The Children’s Inn at NIH (Bethesda, MD)

The Inn provides a place for children with serious illnesses to heal alongside their families. They offer therapeutic, educational and recreational programming for patients and their families at the facility. In order to help make the season bright for them, the team spent the afternoon assembling an outdoor light display on the playground that patients can enjoy and even view from their rooms, and decorating the common areas inside the Inn with holiday decor to provide a happy and cheerful gathering place this winter.

GLIDE (San Francisco)

This all-around community resource provides support to the people of San Francisco through its many programs, including its soup kitchen. The San Francisco office jumped in for GLIDE’s breakfast service this year, preparing food, greeting guests, serving and bussing tables, and washing dishes so more than 600 SF residents could receive a warm breakfast. The team also donated toys to their annual toy drive, which supports families who have a hard time giving their kids gifts due to lack of funds.

Martha’s Table (Washington DC)

A group of MG’ers came out to help chop and prepare fresh vegetables for a nightly stew, which is served to homeless and hungry residents of DC. Each evening Martha’s Table loads up its mobile soup kitchen and sets out into the city to provide a nutritionally balanced meal to 500 people.

Shelter House (Falls Church, VA)

This family-centric shelter provides crisis intervention, safe housing and supportive services to promote self-sufficiency for homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax County. They are often in need of toiletries for residents, and books and activities for the children. Merritt Group held a drive to collect a large supply of toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and soap, as well as books, and toys for the residents. The team also delivered hand-made security blankets for children in the shelter.

Thanks to these great organizations for playing such an important role in our communities, and for letting us be a part of furthering some amazing missions.  Happy holidays and a Happy New Year from the Merritt Group family to yours!
