What do you do at Merritt Group?

I’m an account manager on the Government Practice group, where I serve as a day-to-day lead for our clients, helping meet their PR needs in the government sector.

What’s your greatest moment — whether in work, school or marketing/PR — so far?

Prior to joining the Merritt Group team, I worked with the Department of Defense on supporting Warrior Games, a Paralympic games for wounded veterans and members of the military. I spent several weeks last summer providing onsite support during the Games in Chicago and it was an incredible and moving experience watching the athletes compete after months of hard work.

Who do you love to follow on Twitter or Instagram and why?

I always have wanderlust and want to travel, so many of the Instagram accounts I follow are travel related. worldofwanderlust and finduslost are two of my favorites since I’m forever adding new cities and countries to my travel list. New Mexico, Portugal and any national park are at the top of my list right now!

What’s your favorite piece of technology?

It’s a toss-up between my Kindle….which prevents me from lugging heavy books everywhere, and my DSLR camera and editing apps to document my travels.

What’s the one gadget you think needs to be invented?

I think about how amazing it would be to have a self-sorting dishwasher that puts away all your dishes for you after they are dried. Think about how much time that would save!

What’s your favorite thing about living in the Washington, D.C., area?

Over the eight years that I’ve lived here, D.C. has changed quite a bit. But two things I love the most: 1. Museums are plentiful and free – you take this for granted until you travel somewhere new and have to pay! 2. The D.C. food scene is GREAT. I love trying restaurants from different cultures, and it’s truly a melting pot of cuisines.

What do you love to do when you are not working?

I love planning new trips and researching new places to go. I recently did a week-long trip through Utah’s national parks, and the planning part in the months leading up to it was so much fun. I also enjoy exploring all the local parks and hiking trails in the VA/MD area.

What’s the best book you’ve read recently?

I’m a big reader and Goodreads is always sucking me in to find new books. I read a lot of fiction, chicklits and memoirs, but I recently read “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn, which is a historical novel about World War I and a female spy network in France. It’s fantastic.

What are your podcast recommendations?

Now that I’m commuting to work via car instead of metro, I’m starting to get into podcasts and my interests are varied. I recently listed to the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast, which is a mini-series all about the ins and outs of Trader Joe’s. I tend to listen to more celebrity interviews, because it’s a great way to de-stress after work, so I really (embarrassingly) listen to Anna Faris’s podcast.

What’s your favorite Merritt Group memory?

I’m just entering month two, but my favorite memory so far was on my very first day, we had an all-staff meeting where I met everyone in the office all at once. It was a great way to get into the office culture immediately!

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

My AUX cord so that I can listen to Spotify and podcasts during my commute.

What’s the most interesting item on your desk?

I’m still in the process of personalizing my desk (this is a good reminder), but currently, I have multiple drinks and several snacks on my desk at any moment. I like to have options!
