What do you do at Merritt Group?

I’m a senior graphic designer in the marketing services group.

What’s your greatest moment — whether in work, school or marketing/PR — so far?

My greatest moment at Merritt Group was when our creative team did the branding for AdWeek DC. We conceived everything from the theme down to the collateral. It was a huge success and a great case study. It was nice to be able to attend an event that was utilizing designs we created.

What’s your greatest moment — whether in work, school or marketing/PR — so far?

One of them was my first time pitching while I was a communications intern at K12 Inc. I had never pitched before so I was extremely nervous, but I did secure a media placement! It was a great feeling and still is every time I secure an opportunity.

Q&A With a Merritt Group-er: Get to Know Katie Pesek

What do you do at Merritt Group?

I’m an account executive in Merritt Group’s Cybersecurity Practice.

What’s your greatest moment — whether in work, school or marketing/PR — so far?

My greatest moment (so far) was when I found out I was being promoted from an account coordinator to an account executive. My first year at Merritt Group was one of significant learning and growth so it was extremely rewarding to take a step back and recognize how far I’ve come, as well as where I am going.

I also teared up when I got my first piece of Wall Street Journal coverage. So that was neat too.

When is the best time to hire a PR agency?

Hiring a public relations (PR) agency, especially for smaller and more nimble startups, can often be a substantial investment from a budgetary and resource perspective. While the measurement for the effectiveness of PR is clearly becoming more tangible as part of today’s digital and metrics-driven world, the decision to hire any external vendor may appear as a risk when the return on investment is unclear.
