5 Ways to Grab Investor Attention With Video

Microsoft famously made the comparison that a human’s attention span is shorter than that of a goldfish – nine seconds compared to eight, ouch! This means that you have just about the blink of an eye to grab an investor’s attention or they’ve already moved on to the next hot startup.

Top Tips for Executing Your Far-Afield Trade Show

Each year, our teams zig and zag from our office outside Washington, D.C. to destinations ranging from Montgomery, Alabama, to San Diego, to Honolulu to execute trade show experiences for our clients. As marketers, sometimes we get lucky: when events are in our backyard, execution is easier, and problems are more straightforward to solve. But often we have to hit the road to new or far-flung destinations - which requires a lot of planning and logistics expertise. Fortunately, making tracks also means accumulating some practical wisdom for showcasing a company at an event to remember.

How Trump Changed the Way Government Communicates

“Did you see what he tweeted?”

For nearly two years now, that one question has been asked in every single morning meeting that I’ve been in with federal contractors or employees. It’s on everyone’s mind when they start their day – what did the President tweet today?

Inside the Mind of the CMO with Students at GMU

I speak in front of groups, large and small, pretty often these days, but I must admit I definitely had some butterflies as I stood in front of 30 or so students in a classroom at George Mason University recently. I wasn’t sure what to expect or what hard questions I’d get from this class of bright-eyed undergraduate students, but I was graciously afforded the opportunity by GMU professor Sergei Samoilenko (connected through my colleague Richard Sheehe) to speak to the students. The topic was market research we had done recently at Merritt Group to better understand the priorities and challenges of technology CMOs. I titled my presentation “Inside the Mind of the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).”

Federal Data Strategy: Helping Gov Drive Digital Transformation

The world is currently witnessing a fourth industrial revolution. The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects a 28 percent increase in world energy use by the year 2040, affecting food, transportation and more. Meanwhile, innovative technologies are used to support these global transformations. Driving this fourth wave and underpinning these technologies is one essential ingredient: data.

Data was certainly the hot topic at Informatica’s 2018 World Tour’s stop in Washington DC. To kick off the event, Anil Chakravarthy, CEO of Informatica, discussed how data can drive intelligent disruption and digital transformation across industries. “We believe in the disruptive power of data to transform every business, every government agency and every non-profit,” Chakravarthy said. “Data is helping to drive digital transformation with new customer engagement models – or new citizen engagement models for government, new products and services, and new operating models, like those of Uber or Amazon.”

AI has been a lightning rod for media coverage over the past four years, but according to a research report conducted by Merritt Group’s tech PR experts, the volume of AI coverage began to level out beginning in 2017.

5 Steps to Improve Your Marketing to the CISO

Oftentimes, marketing and sales teams get too caught up in the numbers when going after new business leads and targeting top CISOs. Many sales teams treat new business and prospecting as a sprint, not a journey, and that right there is their downfall. By remaining shortsighted and just trying to “close the deal,” they’re completely ignoring the CISO’s pain points and may have already lost their opportunity to get in the door to sell their solutions.
