Q&A With a Merritt Group-er: Get to Know Sophia Xepoleas

LinkedIn Q&A-SX

What do you do at Merritt Group?

I’m an Account Executive for the Business Technology Group at Merritt Group. I support accounts by managing day-to-day initiatives and advising on media relations.

What’s your greatest moment — whether in work, school or marketing/PR — so far?

I secured an in-print feature in WIRED for one of my biggest clients around the holidays and the team and client were thrilled. Definitely one of those moments that makes all of your hard work worth it.

Who do you love to follow on Twitter or Instagram and why?

I love following certain reporters on Twitter because they tend to throw around witty banter with other reporters. I must say, it’s very entertaining. Brian Heater (@bheater) with TechCrunch and Christopher Mims (@mims) with the Wall Street Journal are a couple of my go-tos when I’m wanting a good laugh.

What's your favorite piece of technology?

Definitely my Roku streaming stick. That little guy is Old Faithful and I love a good Netflix binge on a lazy Sunday.

What’s the one gadget you think needs to be invented?

I would love a gadget that can get me ready in the morning without my having to lift a finger. Mornings aren’t my specialty.

What’s your favorite thing about living in the San Francisco area?

I love San Francisco because we’re right in the hub of the city and in the middle of all of the action. Plus, I’m a fast walker and everyone here seems to get the memo.

What do you love to do when you are not working?

The Bay Area has tons of amazing hiking spots, and not to mention really great weather year round. I love scouting new adventures and checking out what this place has to offer.

What's the best book you've read recently?

The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck (oops). But really, this book was awesome because it really encouraged me to pursue the people and the things that made me happy and leave the rest behind. Highly suggest.

What are your podcast recommendations?

I’m actually not a huge podcast person - I get too distracted, so books are better for me.

What's your favorite Merritt Group memory?

In the San Francisco office, we decorate each other’s desks for our birthdays. Mine fell on a Saturday this year, so I figured it wouldn’t happen. Nonetheless, I walked in on Thursday and my whole desk was covered in streamers and pictures of everything I love. It made my day.

What's one thing you can't live without?

Coffee. It’s borderline an issue.

What's the most interesting item on your desk?

I have a wizard LEGO minifigure. I used to do PR for LEGO and I also just love Harry Potter, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to celebrate both at the same time.
