After 50 years of delivering start-of-the-art spectrum support and analysis to federal agencies, Alion’s experience was well-known in government circles. However, the company needed to raise its awareness within the telecom vertical They needed both the telecom industry and the DoD to understand that Alion could help them navigate the complexities of spectrum sharing from a technical, operational and policy perspective.

Merritt positioned the company’s Director of Spectrum Policy, Karl Nebbia, as a key thought leader in the federal IT and commercial telecom spaces. Prior to joining Alion, Nebbia had worked at the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), where he was associate administrator for the Office of Spectrum Management.

Merritt Group launched an 8-month public relations campaign that coincided with the highly anticipated FCC spectrum auctions, as well as other key industry events and Alion’s spectrum contract award vehicles Merritt secured briefing opportunities with IT reporters in both top-tier business, tech, telecom, and federal trade publications, including Forbes, C-NET, Wireless Week, RCR Wireless, TelecomEngine.com, Army Technology and C4ISR & Networks.

Merritt Group also secured an analyst opportunity with Craig Moffett of MoffettNathanson LLP, and a panel speaking opportunity at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA): Network of the Future event in Dallas, Texas. The combination of traditional media relations, proactive analyst relations and speaking submissions develop Nebbia, and Alion, into a go-to source for reporters covering spectrum policy.
