The Most Coveted Story

Remember the days in the late 1990s when landing a news article in a print publication was considered the holy grail? I remember these days fondly, and also remember the way a client would view an online news hit with lukewarm enthusiasm at best. Whether it was an article in The Industry Standard, Red Herring, Network World or even The Wall Street Journal, they'd often ask, "is this online article also going to appear in the print version?" - which undeniably was the ultimate goal back then. Clients would often question the worthiness of an online article compared to its coveted brethren - the "print" story. I wonder how these dynamics have changed today? Over the last decade, has it possibly even flip-flopped? In 2008, in this age of Web centricity and SEO, is the online news article (or blog post) now the most coveted? I bet so.
